The whole world is eagerly waiting for the vaccines to come out of the COVID scare and roam freely anywhere anytime without any curfews as we did six months ago. But there are a lot of invisible hitches in our country that are gonna test our privacy and moral-being.
A recent study says that a piece of fake news can travel six times faster than the authenticated news. Also, in today's social dilemma, people are not ready to test the authenticity of the news that is been spread by the IT wings of various political parties through WhatsApp, Facebook, and so on.
Fake news is much more contagious than all the deadly viruses that prevail in our motherland. This can be justified through many incidents that happened in the last couple of years.
On 16 April 2020, a vigilante group lynched two Hindu Sadhus and their driver in Gadchinchale Village, Palghar District, Maharashtra, India. The incident was fuelled by WhatsApp rumors of thieves operating in the area during the countrywide coronavirus lockdown. The vigilante group of villagers had mistaken the three passengers as thieves and killed them. Policemen who intervened were also attacked; four policemen and a senior police officer were injured. As of 4 May, 115 villagers have been arrested by the Maharashtra police on charges of murder and an investigation is ongoing. After the incident, rumors were spread to stoke religious tension. On 22 April, Maharashtra Home Minister, Anil Deshmukh posted a complete list of people arrested, stating that none of the arrested were Muslims. The government said that both the attackers and the victims were of the same religion.
On 5 January 2020, more than 50 masked people armed with rods, sticks, and acid attacked the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, and injured more than 39 students and teachers. Many students received serious injuries. Immediately after this incident, many news got circulated through the media social sites stating that some unknown groups headed by Muslims were the brains behind this attack. Eyewitnesses, including students injured in the attack, as well as opposition parties and left-wing organizations, accused the members of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) student wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) of orchestrating the attacks. The ABVP, a Hindu nationalist organization, initially denied any involvement and accused left-wing organizations of carrying out the attack. On 6 January, ABVP's joint secretary for Delhi, Anima Sonkar, admitted on television that two armed men seen in videos of the incident were members of ABVP.
Communalism is increasing in our country and Hindu-nationalism is the prime motto behind it. Whatever happens, branding that incident with Muslim people and targetting their community and making them insecure is what we are witnessing in the nation which is the world's largest democracy and also the secular state.
Whoever criticizes the government is marked as Anti-nationals and they are booked under the UAPA act. Social Activists like Anand Teltumbe, Varavara Rao, Umar Khalid got arrested for raising their voices against the fascist policies of the Modi's regime.
BJP Government with the help of RSS tries to establish Hindu-Rashtra by sidelining the 175 million Muslim population in our country. And, if we don't look into these invisible hate politics and jingoist attitude of the right-wing people , the impact is gonna be huge and the idea of India which is 'Unity in Diversity" will be shattered soon.
