The world is Changing. The governments are changing. Even the policies framed by the previous governments are changing. But the struggles of being a woman in this nation is the only constant.
People in our country are more dichotomy in nature. Right from the beginning, the mindset of the Indians is towards victimizing women for everything. If a girl gets harassed in school, parents will ask her not to school. If a boy teases a girl in a public place, parents will ask their daughter to not step out. If a girl is mocked by a group of sexists for her dressing, parents will restrict the personal lifestyle of their daughter. Nowhere, the boys are punished or at least asked to change their way of thinking in order to bring moral ethics in this society.
Whatever we saw in our society is an indirect effect of male patriarchy. In movies, girls are always portrayed as the property of male society who will see them as the pleasure givers. In the name of love and sex, always girls need to respect and abide by the laws made by men.
Recently, a Dalit girl named Manisha was brutally gang-raped on 14th September. According to multiple reports, she was tortured with her tongue cut and spine broken. After this incident, UP Police burnt the body in the dead of the night, not allowing her parents and immediate family to attend, refusing to answer the questions of reporters.
This is not the first time. And every time, we are fighting to make that incident the last of that kind. But the reality is not on our side.
Why?
Let’s not put the blame on the media alone for not covering the incident as if these will never happen if the media were bringing out these brutalities to the limelight. Back in 2012, a 23-year old paramedical student was raped by six men on a moving bus in Delhi. The victim later succumbed to her injuries. After this incident, the whole opposition including the present prime minister Narendra Modi, who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at that time came to the streets to protest for Nirbhaya and demanded justice which I don’t blame at all.
Also, the frustrated Indian society protested across the nation to bring these kinds of brutalities to end. As a result, the convicted four people out of five( one was minor ) was hanged till death on March 20, 2020.
So, In Nirbhaya’s case despite too much pressure from the public and the opposition, justice was served after a long wait of 8 years. The media brought this issue and the whole nation cried and fought for justice.
But the judiciary waited for so long and finally, they brought some smiles on Nirbaya’s mother's face which was seen as a great sigh of relief. But why wait for 8 years? What part of the Indian judicial system stopped you from punishing the rapists for a long time?
Since then, the attacks on women in this society have increased and today, whoever blamed the UPA regime in the past were in the driver’s seat but this time, no one came to the streets and where are the Indian youngsters who fought for Nirbhaya back in 2012?
Is it because the girl who died yesterday didn’t belong to Savarnas? If that’s the reason, it is not the mistake of the media or government, but our inner instincts and age-old caste issues. Also, the voices made by some people are also silenced through paid propaganda and hatred politics.
As we question the mainstream media for bringing all nuances as news materials and debating unwanted stuff during the prime time, it is also our prime duty to question our legislators. When a Bollywood actress gets Y+ security, the whole Sangh Parivar people rejoice at it and today everyone is walking dead.
The CM of Uttar Pradesh where this incident had happened, took some pride a few months back and said, “I am the only one who restored the law and order in the state”.
Is denying the rights of the girls’ family to do the last rites and cremating the girl’s body at midnight is what you mean by the restoration of law and order? Would the UP police and the UP government have dared to treat an upper caste family in this way? The Prime Minister didn’t even give any condemning statement and the media reported that he ordered the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh to take stringent actions.
Whoever says not to bring caste into these issues, it indirectly exposes their casteist mindset and their discreet support of the varna system. Don’t take such false pride and blame others by taking a neutral stand. Violence is VIolence. Rape is Rape. Caste is Caste. And annihilation of such practices is what we need to pass it on to the next generation.
‘Beti Bachao’ is good to hear and unfortunately, the scenes are so disgraceful. Instead of raising slogans and fooling people through Man ki Baat, indulge in some policymaking that can make this society a better place to survive at least.
Engaging people with different false news and diverting the strength of the opposition through witch-hunt strategies is what we can expect of the current NDA regime and if someone says this in public, they will be labeled as an anti-Indian.

Whenever a soul loses his/her survival as a result of such cruelties, we make some revelations and when the sun rises the next day, so do the problems as well. But don’t remember one thing, Indian Democracy is dying. The real Death of Democracy is here. Not with the alleged issues of Kangana or Deepika or Shradha.
The nation’s hearts are crushed. We are once again defeated.
